Activities & Things to do in Pender Harbour

If you think the phrase “something for everyone” is overstated, you haven’t been to Pender Harbour, “Venice of the North”; and Madeira Park Bed and Breakfast is right in the middle of it all – you’re going to wish you stayed longer!

For Boaters

With its many protected bays and coves, over 160 kilometers of shoreline, marine parks, three government wharfs including one with showers, bathrooms, and a pump-out station, as well as an assortment of pubs and resorts, Pender Harbour is the ideal boating destination.  Don’t have a boat; no problem: rent your own motorboat from Sunshine Coast Resort, or take a tour of the harbour on the Slocat Harbour Tourboat (Or you could take an air tour of the harbour with Tofinoair), book a trip to Chatterbox Falls in stunning Princess Louisa Inlet or check out Skookumchuck Narrows. It’s not called “strong water” for nothing: tidal flows reach speeds up to 16 knots!  Click to view best viewing times.

For Fishers

Both salt and freshwater fishing are readily available. There are 6 freshwater lakes in the area, and Pender Harbour Charters will escort you to the best fishing spots on the ocean. Or see Rick at Gulf Rascal Charters. Don’t forget your fishing license – you can get it here.

For Hikers

The Pender Harbour area is a hikers paradise. Pender Hill, Mt. Daniel (right outside our Kitchen window), the Sunshine Coast Trail and the trail from Egmont to Skookumchuck narrows are just some of the many hiking trails nearby. Check out the Pender Harbour Website for more details.

For Golfers

There are no less than 4 golf courses on the Sunshine Coast. The beautiful 9-hole Pender Harbour Golf and Country Club is just a 7 minute drive from your B&B, and when you’ve played your heart out, you can order lunch on the patio.

For Divers

British Columbia offers some of the best diving in the world, and Pender Harbour offers some of it’s premier dive sites. See the BC Recreation website for details.

For Other Water Sports Enthusiasts

If you didn’t bring your own kayak or paddleboard, you can rent one from Malaspina Water Taxi, Halfmoon Sea Kayaks, Alpha Adventures, or Fisherman’s Resort. Would you like to do some waterskiing? Boats up to 90 HP can be rented from Sunshine Coast ResortSwimming?  There are many freshwater lakes in the area: Ruby Lake, Sakinaw Lake, Garden Bay Lake, McNeill Lake, Trout Lake,  and Katherine Lake which is warm, has a sandy beach, but is one of the farthest destinations from the B&B: 14 whole minutes! For “Parkers”

You can either just “park” here in your comfortable and well-appointed suite, soak in the hot tub, read a book (if you forgot to bring one, we have a small collection) or go to explore one of the many wonderful parks in the area. Pender Harbour-Egmont has more parks than any other area of the Sunshine Coast; simply too many to list, but you can get information on them all here.
